First off let me say that this post is more in jest than anything but I just wanted to express my opinion on play style when you return as Tommy Jarvis.

I can't even count how many times I've seen a player return as Tommy and immediately head for the exit despite having counselors still struggling to survive somewhere on the map. Tommy is your shot at redemption, your chance to help your team mates survive. Hell, connecting with the shotgun is the same amount of xp as surviving so you should be trying to hunt down Jason almost immediately. Find a pocket knife and some spray and you can help just about everyone who's still in the game get out unscathed.

I don't really care if you come back as Tommy and take the selfish path but I will let you know back in the lobby that it's your job to lend a hand. That's why you call him. Better to die a hero than survive a coward.

This post needs some kids to learn how to play I always help out when I'm tommy

How I act as Tommy when I come in as him is 100% dictated by how the other counselors have been acting. If everyone is team focused and trying to help one another, awesome - I am Tommy Jarvis, kamikaze Jason fighter. If they aren't communicating or working together on objectives, then fuck 'em - I am Tommy Jarvis, cowardly Jason avoider.

Which pretty much describes my play style as a regular counselor as well.

agree

My Tommy playstyle depends on what kind of game is going on.

I try to help if the counselors are actually trying to escape or want to try to kill Jason or whatnot. But if everybody is just fucking around, I usually try to escape myself and be done with it.

I wonder if they'll do the same thing with Tina as they did Tommy if they bring her in as an optional hero character. One lightning bolt strike, 10/10 stats, voiced by Lar Park Lincoln, etc. Seems like it, same for any other.

I have to disagree a little bit on the topic.

Tommy should be a savior gameplay wise, but he isn't implemented as one and that's the problem.

The game is very good and I agree with many people on many parts to not blame the game but this is the exception. Tommy is wrong implemented.

He gets scared from dead body's and even have the voice line "I have to get outta here". The developers have to change a few things and make it clear to play him differently.

Little idea, the game should automatically end if everyone but Tommy is either dead or got out. That would implement that you are here to help. If you got the last one out, you automatically get the win too.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but hey at least I used the search function :)

Anyway, I was wondering how people were playing as Tommy these days, because I've always looked  at him as an opportunity to get some bonus XP and help some others out, where I'm less concerned with escaping than I would be with the character I started the match with.

But, it seems that time after time I see Tommy taking up a spot in a car leaving one player behind, or running away with his shotgun strapped to his back while others are getting killed saving his own ass.  I guess there is no wrong way to play as him, but just something I was wondering after some of my recent games, maybe I'm too nice trying to help others out and I need to change my ways...

I still play as a helper, although a little more aggressive than before. My job as TJ is to "aggro" Jason, distract him from other counselors, buying them time. If I see a sweater in play, turning the tables is an option aswell. In that case I will prioritize the sweater-girl and try to set-up everything for the kill. This goes wrong most of the time though.

The way I see it, I already got a lot out of a lobby when I get a second life. I owe it to everyone else to play unselfish and carry myself as a teamplayer. There is more hiding in the game nowadays, but I'd guess those are mostly new players who are in over their heads with the responsibility of being "the hero" while still learning game basics.

As Tommy I repair everything I can possibly repair.

I usually play around with Jason so while he’s distracted the other counselors can safely escape.

Depending on the Jason I may or may not survive but that doesn’t really matter as this is not what Jarvis is meant for.

If I get team killed, or have toxic people in the lobby I won’t help them simple as that.

That's pretty much how I go about it. I'll head straight for a counselor that's alone so they have strength in numbers. If they're trying to repair something, I guard them. If the cops are called I try to escort everyone to safety. If they're making zero attempt to get to the police when I reach them, I leave them. I assume they're just waiting to do some trolling.

I was playing a game one time where somebody came back as Tommy, stole the four seater that everyone else worked on to put back together, and escaped without anyone else in it. Asshole.

As others have stated, it depends on the group. Lately it seems that players have no interest in trying to fix anything or help anyone out.  When I am in a group like this, I focus on escaping. If I am able to take someone with me I will, but I am not going out of my way to save the ones who did nothing for anyone else.

Just my thoughts on the subject.

Edit: another thing that I have seen is people hoarding parts to prevent others from escaping.

Really hate those kinds of players. Recently went to drive the four seater, some random guy screamed at me to let him drive. Being fairly laid back, I let him, hoping he was a good driver and was gonna drive round picking other players up. Instead, he drove around killing the other players, luring them toward the car. Bottom line, assholes gonna be assholes I guess.

In the suggestions forum we were talking about xp bonuses for Tommy as an incentive for rewarding good Tommy play. Something to consider maybe. ;)

I escaped and finally got to play as Tommy and someone messaged me ‘thanks for saving me’ because I was slaying. I sprayed a limping AJ (why is it always AJ limping around with a frying pan?) and I gave Tiffany my pocket knife. I escorted Tiffany around and we repaired a car and I found a replacement pocket knife. We fucked Jason up a bit and only 2 people died that match, both before I was Tommy.  It was a good match.

  • Thanks 1

I was playing a game at Higgins Haven. I picked up the sweater and we baited Jason with the car whilst we beat on him and one person repaired the phone. We got the mask off and the cops arrive. I notice Tommy spawn so i run towards him to tell him to come and help us kill Jason. I see he is running towards the cops and i say to him. "Tommy, where are you going?" He stops and  looks at me. "We need you to help kill Jason, we got his mask off and i got the sweater" He just ignored me and ran off and escaped.

What a tool.

Luckily the car picked me up and i was able to escape.

I'm the world's creepiest Tommy that runs around going, "are there any ladies here?? Let's get you a sweater, I got a machete!"

This is a solid point to make, thanks for making this thread. It really does sort of ruin the whole point of calling Tommy when that person just comes back and decides to hightail it without helping the others. The guy spawns in with a radio, a knife, a gun, is fast, and has a lot of stamina that can also recover quickly. Unless you're just plain bad at juking and running, why take the cowards way out?

The only way you can fully solve this is if Tommy can't escape until he is the last counselor left or something

Blame the dance parties. Well not every time. But as Tommy i tend to do the cars. Cba to get everyone to the cops just to watch them not going out. i meanwhile hate the cops. tommy or not...

Game should end if Tommy is the only one alive tbh. It's annoying watching someone troll Jason with a 10/10 Character.

Host is afk as counselor, dies, and then becomes Tommy... 4 minutes left of the match, Tommy is the only one alive while everyone has to spectate and wait on him being found by Jason. My favorite kind of Tommy <_<
