Could An Argument Be Made That Steve Cristy Is Just As (If Not More) Responsible For The Crystal Lake Murders?

Recommended Posts

Think about it.

Pamela poisoned the water, murdered the two counselors in 1958, set a bunch of a fires. We know later that Jason would resume the killing around the location for many years.

The one person who doesn't get talked about much in all this is Steve Cristy and its always been so strange to me. Yeah, he seemed like a normal guy, just trying to make a buck, and get in good with Alice it looked like. Yet he knew the stakes going in and STILL proceeded with trying to re open Crystal Lake. He knew about the fires, he knew about the bad water, he knew about the two murders. Hell he knew who Mrs. Voorhees was, obviously not that she was the one causing all this trouble. She obviously hid those intentions after her son 'drowned'.

But like Enos said...he was up there fixing up the place for over a year...dropped 25k and for what?...ASK ANYBODY.

So is Steve Cristy at all responsible for what ended up happening at Crystal Lake for years to come after? What if he just saved that 25k and did something else with his life? The evidence was there to suggest trying to reopen Camp Crystal Lake was not a wise investment?

Very interesting point! Actually when I seen this when it came out, HE was the biggest suspect. He was rather haphazard with the warning signs, not to mention his kitchen worker WAS MISSING!!!

Which begs the question...why didn't Pamela just kill Steve in those post-Jason drowning years and put an end to all of it.

Maybe she didn't think he could actually pull it off, financially? OR, maybe she knew it would draw in those darn counselors, so she could finish what she started years earlier.

And then!

Y'know...Pam is even more evil and screwed up now that you bring this up. Actually wanting more victims. What if that was the only way she could "reconnect" with Jason via the voice in her head.

I think Pamela tried to stop him through her tricks but I'd also argue she believed between what she was doing and the reputation the camp had that he'd never get it off the ground. That he does successfully get the ball rolling is likely when she snaps again. The arrival of those camp counselors (who should have been watching him!) seems to be when she loses her shit completely.

I think a strong case could be made by a lawyer that he was partially responsible and it's likely that the counselors families would sue his estate. Whether or not they'd win anything is up for debate. OJ Simpson was acquitted for murder but found responsible for the famous murders in a civil trial, forcing him to compensate the families of the deceased.

Steve Christy is very responsible. The townspeople told him not to go back there. The warning signs were all there and he chose to ignore them.

Aside from that, there is plenty of speculation to be had as to where Steve was back in 1957 when Jason drowned. Being that his family that has owned, there is no question he would have been working as one of the counselors during that summer. Who knows what sort of role he may have played in that event.

Steve Christy seemed like the stereotypical "dumb rich guy."

Besides the points mentioned -- notably, not realizing a stigmatized property is a poor investment -- Stevie C. failed to realize that someone stalking towards you with a hunting knife, even if a recognized an acquaintance, should probably be run-away from instead of warmly greeted.

This post made me consider no one doing anything with the land until Part 2 and now we've got Ginny dealing with Mrs. Voorhees at the end.
