Counselor Tier List

Recommended Posts

Today I made my own tier list for the counselors. I know Tommy isn’t considered a counselor but added him to the list anyways. My list is based on personal opinion. I would like to see your guys’ tier lists as well if you have the time to make one.

S tier

Tommy- Best of the best

Vanessa- She can deliver parts to objectives quickly, get the sweater, fight Jason, get the mask off, and she is good at distracting Jason. Only negative I see with her is low stealth.

A tier

Tiffany- I know many will disagree but I main her and I think she’s being slept on. She can get the sweater quickly and quietly, put up a fight against Jason, deliver parts to objectives fast, I’ve knocked off jasons mask as her, and she can survive the night with her high stamina stat.

Fox- Decent runner, can repair, can take the mask off quickly, can get the sweater, she is probably the most well rounded character who can do about everything

Deborah- If your goal is repair she is your absolute best bet. She will out do other repair characters in other aspects making her a better choice. For example, she can put up a better fight against Jason compared to AJ. And she can run better than Lachappa.

B tier

Adam- He can fight and repair while being okay at running.

A.J.- She can repair going unnoticed with her high stealth and composure. She is very good to use if your goal is to avoid Jason and repair. She can’t fight for shit though.

C tier

Buggzy- He is good at running and can get Jasons mask off quick. Mainly good to use when trying to kill Jason.

Chad- He is pretty much best for the first part of the game where Jason is not in rage mode. He can distract and stun Jason while others get objectives done. His quick speed also allows him to easily juke a shift grab. But when Jason hits rage he is kind of useless.

Victoria- She is a okay character to use. She Is good at running. Can put up a fight against Jason, and is decent at repair.

D tier

Jenny- She could take Jason to stun city but that’s about it. She isn’t good at running, can’t repair, and isn’t that stealthy. She used to be good but now she won’t last long against a raged Jason.

Mitch- He can repair, that’s about it to him

Kenny- Just a average joe who doesn’t excel in anything. Average across the board.

F tier

Lachappa- Not the best choice in a repair character due to how bad he is at running and his stealth isn’t as good as A.J. and Deborah.

Shelly- He just sucks

You better put some respek on lachappa’s name. You clearly haven’t ran him with his inhaler.

in all seriousness, I can’t disagree with with ur list. Only thing I’d change is put Kenny and Mitch above Jenny. Her greatest strength is pretty much useless in most circumstances.

Jenny has secretly high stealth. 8.5

I'd swap Deborah and AJ. AJ with silent sprint capability and slightly better stamina will get more done early during a match. Give her Speed Demon and re-roll repairs once or twice to get three slow skill checks and she'll repair just as well as Deborah too. Neither are gonna do great fighting one on one against Jason but AJ's higher composure will keep her off radar a bit longer and that slight stamina boost will make it easier to ditch him or cabin hop once he does find you. Luck is a definite liability for AJ (Deb's isn't great either though) but a bat or gun will be more than enough to deal with the occasional Jason that stumbles across you during the first ten minutes of a match unless they tunnel you. Both AJ and Deborah need help fighting in the second half of matches especially now with the stronger post-Rage Jason. Someone hasn't done their job if AJ or Deborah is fighting to survive (as opposed to fighting to escape or kill Jason) at that point during the match.

I can see Deborah maybe being a good choice if you're working in a team and value her better perk flexibility but AJ blows her away, and all the other characters too IMO, as a lone wolf choice when you're using the right perks.

I'd also knock Vanessa down to 'A' tier since she really only has one game style (run & fight). She's worthless for escapes without competent repair counselors doing their jobs (she's not even ideal for part delivery since she'll often bring Jason with her and get repair counselors killed) and any sweater girl regardless of speed/stamina needs a competent Tommy doing their part. Like Deborah, probably a better choice if you're working in a group with specialized counselors who know what they're doing.

You can often get decent repair skill check wheels with Vanessa. I do just fine on my own finding parts, taking them to objectives, and making the repairs myself.

@Eva Watanabe Any counselor with two repair can fix things just fine. It'll be a bit slow. But it's not hard at all.

It is if you're not very good at it.  I'm not very good at repairing, so it helps to have someone like AJ or LaChappa or Deborah.

Just had a Vanessa in one of my matches do this a few days ago so I know it's possible. But 90% of the Vanessas (or Chads or Tiffanys...) I see doing a repair struggle at it for upwards to a minute with multiple mistakes along the way. I never hang around when one of those counselors insists on doing a repair next to my AJ or some other repair counselor. Vanessa also seems to always have Jason on her ass when I see her. Maybe someone really good at skill checks can repair with her but she's still a death magnet for slower counselors and thus not ideal for ferrying parts. Tiffany's a better choice if you want to help us repair counselor out while still getting to effectively drag Jason around the map.

Again, maybe if you're good at skill checks and have someone else occupying Jason while you're fixing. The latter point is another reason she's a good choice if you're working in a group: much easier to push objectives regardless of your stats if you know other counselors are keeping Jason occupied.

If you insist on repairing with Vanessa in front of a high repair counselor, then yeah they're idiots. Unfortunately half the time as Vanessa I have to fix the stuff because the high repair counselors refuse to.

That one mistake unfortunately gets my AJ killed (or at least rendered ineffective for several minutes) about half the time. I'd often screw up the final skill check with AJ so Speed Demon's made a huge difference for me. I can see how one mistake wouldn't be so terrible for a Vanessa though since she can get the hell out of dodge once Jason shows up. That mistake will still keep you from making a clean fix+escape/phone call though if the Jason's any good.

I can't imagine playing the game as a repair counselor and refusing to do repairs. 🤦‍♂️ What else are they gonna do besides hide and eventually become Jason fodder? Doubt those players are having much fun with the game unless they're trolling.

That's mostly what they are doing. Hiding for no real reason. When I play a repair counselor my only goal is to fix things. If I get found I always know my escape route. If Jason desides to tunnel me down after he has found me he can enjoy those 5 minutes I'm going to waste.

Most of the people that play Vanessa and Tiffany insist on doing the repairs themselves even when I'm standing there as Deborah.  And when they screw up and Jason morphs to them, they actually run the parts away from the car.  With Deborah, I can repair when Jason is running at me and have time to run away usually.  You can never do that with low repair.

Taking in consideration advantages given to yourself and to the team this is my tier list:

S
TOMMY JARVIS

A (meta)
VANESSA JONES- The best at distracting Jason
TIFFANY COX- The best at stealing Jason's mother sweater
DEBORAH KIM- The best at repairing while still being able to hide from Jason
BRANDON WILSON- The best at unmasking Jason plus he can distract Jason pretty well

B (useful)
A.J. MASON- The best at hiding from Jason, but that doesn't really help the team. She is still good at stealing Jason's mother sweater and her repair is also good.
FOX- She can fight and steal the sweater plus she has a ok repair.
ADAM PALOMINO- He can fight and has a ok repair, but can not steal the sweater and that's why he's below the girls.
KENNY RIEDELL- He's not good, but not bad. He can be used for anything but doesn't excel on nothing.
MITCH FLOYD- He can repair and has good stealth, but others do what he does better. He's still pretty ok though
SHELDOM FINKRlSTEIN- He's the only heavy hitter that can be with stealthy counselors without alerting Jason, but it's pretty much it.

C (bad)
JENNY MYERS- She's the best driver because she starts the car fast and her vision almost never get foggy due to her high composure, but that's pretty much it.
VICTORIA STERLING- She barely gives advantages to her team, but at least she can steal the sweater.
CHAD KENSINGTON-He gives absolutely no advantages to his team. He struggles at distracting Jason because his stamina is bad and recharges slowly, he struggles to unmask jason and can't repair, but at least he runs very fast.

D (hardcore mode)
ERIC LACHAPPA- His stealth sucks because his composure is low so the only thing he can do is repairing things. He gives ok advantages to the team, but zero advantages to yourself and nobody can help the team if dead and this is what makes him the worst counselor in f13 the game. At least he is S tier on the meme tier list.

It is really a pity that Shelly is such a poor character in the game.

I have just rewatched F13 - Part3 and Shelly is no sportsman, no person with strength or luck (at least not with the female counselors), but there is one ability in the movie which would have been great to have it also in the game:  I call it his prankster ability

In the movie we see him pulling pranks on the others, I.e playing dead, bloody axe in his head.

How cool would it have been, if Shelly would have been able to do this - to a certain degree of course - in the game as well by misleading Jason by a fake death (no live pings) or some other pranky things.

As Shelly also is the person who introduces the hockey mask, it would have been also cool to have this relation been stressed out in the game.

Potential is there with him (more variety to the Vanessas and Buggzys at least), maybe in another future game...

Happened to me this morning. Tiff I think was trying to drop the battery and didn't know how. Screws up the repair, Jason morphs and wipes her out. I can only get so far away in that amount of time, Jason sniffs me out and tunnels me.

The hate on chad in here is crazy. 😀 Hes just luckiest guy in the game!(spam skill checks for a good repair, weapon durability and fast car starts). He is fast at running so you tend to want to mash on that sprint and run out of stamina quick, but there is no need to. Jog around town to stay ahead of Jason and you can easily manage stamina. The only negative i can see is his low composure (high fear), so he constantly will yell out when hiding, stumble and lose mini map. If you are aware of this and don't rely on either then he is just fine. No other serious negatives.

Tell that to numerous Jasons that rage quite on the 2min warning.  Stop playing Tiff or Vanessa for a bit and try her out.  NFJ is a beast.

I just want to point this out since it doesn't get talked about often, is how Vanessa's stealth is actually a weakness.  I know Vanessa defenders like to say it doesn't matter if Jason know where you are at all times because of sense, but Vanessa becomes extremely vulnerable  if the Jason player knows how to ambush shift without alerting counselors.  Since I can read the distance of the sound pings, I'll just morph to an good distance away from Vanessa (to mask VHS static), but still within Shift range and go for her.  If you are good at in-door shifting, you know exactly where Vanessa is in the house/cabin.  Don't bother chasing her, it's a waste of time (unless she's the last one and you love tunneling them like I do), far more efficient to ambush her later when she has her guard down.

I made this list a year ago my opinion is a bit diff now. I’ve survived with Jenny and Chad since then and did pretty well with both of them. And a year ago I had them ranked low af.

don’t rly play this game much anymore tho. Only thing that I wanna finish is the last achievement I need. 1000 matches as jason.

that’d be an interesting idea to be put into a later game. Shelly going around playing dead would fit his character perfectly.

@Carlso give No Fear Jenny (10% Nerves of Steel and 10% Preparedness perks) a try and you'll soon bump her up your list 😉

I thought Jenny was "meh" before I heard about the 'No Fear build' and now I use her a lot. I run her with Low Profile (24% sense avoidance chance) as the 3rd perk and it is amazing how great she is in the first half of every match. As Jason's Sense ability is based on a counselor's fear level, with the build I run it's astounding how many Jason's lose sight of me and then morph off somewhere else because they think I've vanished or go after another nearby counselor thinking it was me. Obviously good Jason's will spam Sense but that small cooldown window can buy a decent amout of time for you to make your next move. Also, fear affects how quick (slowly) your couselor's stamina regenerates, so obviously with NF Jenny she can cabin hop very well if Jason is tunnelling or in the second half of a match. Not to mention the fact that she doesn't succumb to fear means she won't stumble or scream out anywhere near as much as a scared counselor.

Side note: Jenny's Repair is good enough if you can reset the skill checks to 5 or 6 (same as with Vanessa). Sometimes just pre-empting the last one or two skill checks works for me. Her 8 Luck not only starts the car fast but gives a nice amount of weapon durability - the cooking pot is actually one of the most durable weapons in the game (up there with the 2x4) despite what the in-game stats show. She might not be de-masking Jason any time soon but she sure as hell can block a good amout of slashes (which a lot of players neglect to do) and run to the cops unharmed. Also, her Stealth is said to be higher than the game states (8.5 as Armani? said), so that's a nice bonus.

I personally believe Tiffany is the most useless character in the game. Sure she's got stealth but in a game against a good Jason, she is useless.

She cannot really repair, and the last thing you want is to get grabbed because it takes that extra time to just get out of the repairing animation. Stealth imo is useless, no smart Jason would go out of his way to just kill the sweater girl when there's other things happening around the map.

Chad, jenny, and Victoria can start the car faster than the animation of ONE stun including if Jason pulls you out of the car and you have a pocket knife. That's A free car start and Jason most likely doesn't have shift to stop you again.

Chad Really Trump's in situations because he can still repair quite quickly with his luck, you might get lucky and not even mess up. Having a character that can jog just as fast as Jason and a counselor who doesn't have to leave after every 2-4 hits on a Jason can be a very deadly combo.

I'm glad you out Deborah in your A tier, personally I think she is up there right next to Vanessa.

I agree with everything else in your list.

Edit: no fear Jenny is God like as well. Jenny needs some love. I mained her for the longest.

Tiffany has speed, stam, stealth, and ok luck. Those are a good combination of strengths. She is useful for either running parts, stn, or wasting Jason’s time so others can repair. Just cause a counselor can’t repair doesn’t mean they don’t have a role. As Tiffany, you shouldn’t be repairing anyway. Play to their strengths.. In lobbies the most effective team is a balance between runners and repair counselors. Each of them having a role in the game. If anybody is useless it is shelly with his awful stat combination that doesn't give him an effective role on a team. @Summerofheat
