Thoughts on the perks system

As we know (and as the devs admit), the perk system isn't very good. One thing that stands out to me is that there are a few perks that are just head and shoulders above the others: Thick skin, Medic, Marathon, hypochondriac, and possibly swift attacker and restful. These perks will always be better because they are good in every situation. Other perks, like my dad's a cop and the fast car perk (I forget the name) are actually really good, but they just aren't worth picking over the "meta" perks. 

 

I think that the better perks should be either severely crippled or removed from the game. This would make utility perks and specialists become a much bigger deal; everyone has  a role. We could have Chads with car perks, stealth characters like LaChappa and AJ with My dad's a cop, and even things like people who can repair faster and or get the boat running at crazy speeds. The game would be much more interesting and require more coordination.

I doubt they'll bother touching anything at this point. If they did I wouldn't want them to harm the meta perks. I think it'd be far better to make the other perks more useful. Sense avoidance perks are hardly used but if you combined some of them and upped the percentages you could make stealth viable. That's just one example. Maybe rework Leadfoot to make the car go faster if you're in it with an extra boost if you're the one driving. That's just a couple of ways to improve the system.

I think if they could get the rolling system to not produce the same perks you already have over and over again unless they are a higher level than what you already have that would be better.

If you have Epic Speed Demon and Epic Lead Foot, you can loop Jason for the rest of the match in the car if you are driving alone. There are other non meta combos that work too, such as the 'No Fear' build for Jenny or Lightfoot/Level Headed/Low Profile on A.J. or Tiffany or Deb, although that one is a bit of a gimmick.

The perk system is really terrible though. Nothing but meaningless RNG after countless hours of grinding.

We've been giving them ideas better than the current perk system (which is almost anything, really) for months now; they couldn't care less.

It's a shame, because I love the game.  This is the worst "progression/leveling" system I've ever encountered in a game, however.

Nah, just rework the useless perks so that they become viable, nerfing the few worthwhile perks isn't going to increase the value and use of the pointless things like "easy listening."

 The repair perks would be better if it slowed the quick time event down (or increased the size of the targets) speeding it up just makes it more difficult for the less intelligent counselors (Tiffany, etc.) and is pretty much unnecessary for a Debbie or LaChappa when they can instead just take a perk that enhances their stamina or stealth, etc. (Shaving off a second of repair time isn't worth a slot.)
