The New Halloween 2018

Recommended Posts

Jamie Lee Curtis said she wants this to be the best Halloween of all-time!  The best horror film of recent memory.  She wants to go out with a bang..

The trailer looks amazing.

What do you guys think?

The trailer looks amazing.  I can only hope that Carpenter summons his old magic and makes this a modern classic.  His camera work, pacing, coloring, music, and plot work is second-to-none when he is on pace.  If he was lucid during this film, we are is for a true treat.  I don't want to pump this up too much for fear of disappointment, but it's almost impossible.

What do you think?

Wasn't blown away by the trailer ... it certainly looks more promising than the Zombie films and Resurrection, but I didn't see anything in the trailer that hasn't been done before.  Be nice if the slasher genre started producing genuinely good films again, rather than living on "well, at least its better than the utter sh*te we had previously" ... that's a pretty low bar.

I guess there isn't too much new ground to break in the slasher genre, so hoping that it'll live up to the 1978 original is probably a fool's errand ... but a solid, scary film with decent plot logic, and well written sympathetic characters shouldn't be too much to ask for.

Man, if I'm being honest, the nostalgia factor within me wants to think this will be amazing, but it will probably just be really okay at best. I expect it to get around a 59% on Rotten Tomatoes, and I expect on the fan side of things for it to fair around 70%. I think aspects of the film will be really good but it'll probably end up having a lot of cringy modern horror cliches in it and probably not age well

I am such a huge Halloween fan and have been wanting a return to the original series since Zombies trashy films.....I am hoping for the best... I have only watched the very first teaser trailer and have avoided the full trailer and all articles about the film to try and make my viewing experience free of as many spoilers as possible.

from what I have seen it looks very promising and I am looking forward to seeing it.

i'm not going to see it.I got kinda tired of many of the sequels ignoring each other.I'm still glad the movie is being made, since there will be people who enjoy it.I'm just going to be happy with the previous movies.I did like Rob Zombie's first one,but the second one fell off the deep end for me,the only thing i liked about that one was the chemistry of acting between Brad Dourif and Danielle Harris, they were the part of the second movie that i did like.I think my favorite movie in the series is always going to be the Producer's Cut of Halloween 6- Curse of Michael Myers.I was glad i finally got to see it,it was very fun to watch, and i liked what they did with it,with the runestones,Thorn, and the cult.

Nice to have a fellow Cult member on the forums....

The order of my favorite Halloween movies :

Halloween, Halloween 2 and the Curse of Michael Myers I love both versions producers cut and theatrical are my favorite of the original series....

I loved the atmosphere of Curse and nothing beats how creepy Michael Myers was portrayed in the film (the actors and look/ masks) were the best in my opinion.

it also was the first Halloween I watched in the movie theater.

I want to say this movie is going to be great, but I think its basically going to feel like an updated H20. Probably scary for the teens out there that didnt experience the old films and only new films with high gloss hold their attention.

Slash 'n Cast did an awesome trailer analysis, which I dont recommend watching unless you want some spoilers. They did a great job, and its very insightful, but we basically know a few of the people that die and how they get killed already because of it.

I think that Blumhouse will do a good job with a recycled license. I think its going to lead to a lot of confusion on where it actually takes place in the timeline. More importantly I cannot foresee this touching the original Halloween at all. Nothing will. The film was entirely too revolutionary and it set the standard for the slasher genre. To this day I think it may hold the gold standard. I hope its as good as 4, maybe even part 2.

I'm into seeing this. It makes sense why everything Halloween (1978) is ignored so I'm curious to see where they're going to go with this. The fact John Carpenter is a good sign, maybe he wants to make sure this is good. His music is always great in his films.

I've read they've thrown out the relationship between Michael and Laurie. I don't understand. I really don't.

I don't have high hopes for this.

Maybe there will be an adult porn version where Michael and Laurie have a relationship, and they could call it Halloweenie.

....wow, you just went there. Is Loomis the pizza delivery guy?

Dr. Loomis, who is now a woman, is there to help Michael with his Hallow Weenie issues...performing frequent physical sexual therapy on Michael....purely for research. And, also attempts to help Laurie deal with Michael, by performing physical sexual therapy with Laurie, purely for research.

The story concludes with a threeway between Michael, Laurie, and Dr. Loomis.

Funny enough, 4 and 5 were the ones I watched most as a kid. Creepy as hell when Michael is chasing around kids the same age as you. I had nightmares for weeks on end.. lol

I love four, but five is just awful to me. I even hated it as a kid. Mainly because of Tina, I always thought the scenes with her and Michael in the car were really awkward and stretched out way too long. That, mixed with the weird clown noises when the two bumbling cops are on screen ruined the movie for me. The only thing I liked about the movie at all was the recap of H4 that added them throwing the dynamite, that scene was exciting. I also really liked the mask even though a lot of people hated it. It has a very unique look to it

No doubt Halloween 5 has some terrible ideas and execution in it.

( the goofy cops and killing off Rachel early in the film and the horrific mask design...... are among them.)

however it has some legit tension the car chase at the farm the build up to the climax showing you how smart Myers can be making the police leave their posts at the Myers house.... and air duct chase and attack and the chase through out the Myers house in general are very big positives for the film.... if they replace all the Tina stuff and keep Rachel alive throughout the film ditched the bumbling cop theme/ Goofiness it could have been a solid entry in the franchise....and not looked at as a failure....even with retconning the Thorn symbol into the mythology.

I always liked thorn. It makes Michael more of a victim and gives him some interesting depth in my opinion. I've always wondered what it would be like if Michael lost the curse and became an anti hero. A semi good guy Michael that rectifies his mistakes by killing the remaining members of his cult and also decides to make it his goal to kill off every serial killer instead of every family member.

See, I thought the opposite of Thorn. It made him a puppet. Almost a robot. Would prefer he kills because he is possessed by some unknown evil entity. Not some corporate corrupt cult conjuring Michael for their own motive. Although why would they hate his family and want them to kill them? Did they assist the Bush family in having JFK assassinated? It was a cheesy plot with lots of loopholes. Who are they? Why do they want Michael to do their bidding? What is their bidding? How do they benefit?

I wish we got one more film to flesh out the ideas presented in The curse of Michael Myers.

I always thought that the whole town was cursed and the Druids/ cult preformed the ritual for Thorn to inhabit one individual and that family bloodline was to be wiped out  to spare all of their own families.

( evil bastards...) lol

... I do like that Michaels evil is so strong that he kills the Wynn and the doctors / cult members off in the theatrical cut..but wish the cult part was built up more in that version like it is in the Producers cut..

I think a version that incorporated the chase through the hospital like in the theatrical cut, but added more from the producers cut with the sacrificing of Michael / Jamie’s baby and the passing on of the Curse to Danny in the under ground alter area would have greatly improved the confusion that is in both versions

And when Tommy releases Kara and Danny, Michael flips shit and starts killing the cult members and Wynn for failing to pass on the curse..... leaving it with him forever.

What if Thorn is just a branch off of Silver Shamrock, and Michael's powers come from the masks he wears and not a curse? Maybe Michael was Conal Cochran's prototype for a perfect minion? I get that H3 is a separate universe since we see the trailer for H1 on the tv, but let's pretend for a moment that they didn't include that part. It would be a neat way to tie all of them together.
