So several websites are reporting on this, but really there is no new news here other than the fact that the people over at Platinum Dunes want to go ahead with another F13 film. Not quite sure if they're still hoping to fill out the cancelled 2015 project or do something entirely new. What do you guys think? If a new F13 film is being made, would you want Platinum Dunes to helm it again or a new production company?

Fuck. No.

First of all, the fact that the producers still think the scrapped Guzikowski script is "good" shows how out of touch they are with this franchise. Quite frankly, they're not qualified to make a FRIDAY THE 13th movie.

Check out Pizowell's breakdown of the scrapped project here:

There are a million ways to tackle a revival for this franchise, but whatever that perfect -- or even passable -- vision is, it won't be Platinum Dunes that discovers it and shepherds it across the finish line.

I mean, maybe really what this franchise needs is someone like Blumhouse to try and take it on. One of the reasons the older films had the aesthetic they did was because of severely hindered budgets. Lower budgets forces creativity, and Blumhouse's model is largely to do a 3-5m dollar picture. We don't need a Friday the 13th movie that costs 19 million. It's ridiculous.

But what we do need are producers who can oversee the development of a script that has good storytelling, and the Platinum Dune crew have proven they are not good storytellers. They just have money, and make films that have a lot of brand recognition, thus guaranteeing a certain minimum return.

But no -- Platinum Dunes needs to be axed from any future F13 project, hands down.

@Smitty_Voorhees I think their track record pretty much speaks for itself. And I'm not even talking about 2009, but we also got Hitcher, TCM, ANOES, TMNT, Amityville, the list goes on. Thank you, Michael Bay.

ANOES hurts the most. That idea with the micronaps is really neat and intriguing, and then everything else is painful to watch. So painful.

I loved The Hitcher remake!

Fair enough. And I thought the F13 remake was one of the better ones on their list. I agree with @Smitty_Voorhees thoughts about the feelings towards ANOES.

EDIT: Obviously 2009 was not without some of its flaws, the most obvious one people point to is that Jason doesn't kidnap people.

I loved the 2009 Remake. It´s like my fifth Favorite.

But that script? It would still be better than Jason goes to Hell. But still it wouldn´t be good.

If that's our bar, then we might as well bury this franchise while we're ahead.

I could make a better F13 movie with hand puppets than JGTH. Someone needs to make a proper F13 movie that will reinvigorate the franchise. I think too many producers try to outsmart themselves. There's a lot of that going around with older franchises now. They want to keep franchises going because of the brand recognition, but they bemoan doing the "same thing over and over." It's like look motherfuckers, if you don't want to do the same thing over and over and you want to radically reinvent the formula, then maybe not make one of these movies and just make something new?

But these producers and execs and directors, they try to be all auteur and try to explain to fans why the way they enjoy these films is wrong, and that they actually need something different in order to keep the brand fresh. It's ridiculous. How many Disney princess movies are there? How many Marvel origin stories are there? F13 didn't die because it was the same formula, it died because they hired terrible writers and directors and wrote themselves into ludicrous corners that they couldn't get out of. And, ultimately, they tried to recreate the formula (JGTH being the first).

The 2009 reboot at least returned to formula, but the problem I had with it was it was way too convoluted and had too many beginnings and too many setups. A consequence of them trying to cram so much into one movie. And then we were just sort of hanging out with a Jason character that didn't feel like Jason at all. Felt like Leatherface/Hills Have Eyes type of vibe going on. And the characters didn't feel like real teenagers. They felt like caricatures of teenagers with slang that rang false and corny. And then they killed the final girl in an effort to elicit some shock, but it came off as trite and cheap rather than an inspired choice. I also wasn't a fan of the torturous deaths. I like the inventive deaths over the torture porn.

But.... he was one menacing motherfucker in that movie. That was well done. It's just all the structure and character around it that didn't work at all for me.
