Didn't even know there was a book! ... thanks for the tip, I might look that up ... easier to put down a book than turn off a film I find.

Yeah, it's written by Marquis de Sade. Definitely defines the libertine movement. French aristocracy instead of Italian fascists.

Watched Murder Party last night. Kind of a crappy film but it hooked me in out of curiosity. Ended up having a few fun parts. I enjoyed the guy in the Baseball Furies costume.

Hellraiser-10/10

Brilliant mix of Gothic Horror, Tragedy and human Drama, gorgeous score, great acting and the entrance of a new horror icon Pinhead/Lead Cenobite/Hell Priest, whichever you prefer

Army of Darkness-8.5/10

The more overt humour, compared to the previous entry, became a little jarring at times, but ultimately an enjoyable watch. On a side note i prefered the theatrical ending with Ash back in his own time

A Nightmare on Elm Street 6- 5/10

The decision to go for a lighter and softer approach for what was meant to be the final entry in the series was a misstep and the ending was so sudden and smug it made me cringe, but i did enjoy the darker more serious scenes, largely between Freddy and Katherine, shout out to both the flashback to Freddy killing his wife, the serene quality mixed with the horrific aspect of Freddy bashing his wifes skull in and his young Daughter crying is chilling and the "Every town has an elm street" scene. Ultimately this should have been a somewhat more serious entry if it was intended to be the last but whats done is done.

So I went back and watched the ashcan Hellraiser... (cough) Revelations. Wow, I mean, wow.

Shaky cam, useless plot, a very unconvincing plot. I felt more sick to my stomach watching Supersize Me than this crap.

If you research the film at all, you know it was done on a tight budget and done very quickly. It really shows. There's really not much that saves the film at all. In fact, it kills me because it was only made to keep the license to Pinhead. A lot of people can say that Platinum Dunes destroyed Jason or Freddy... pretty please don't look at what Dimension did to my dearest Pinhead.

Objectively it's a Hellraiser film in name only. Subjectively, not at all. You could wipe out every single instance of the Hellraiser lore and it can probably still work. It's a bad fever dream. What I find crazy is how this film is sold for anything above 2 bucks on blu-ray. I wouldn't gift my friends this trash.

The plot isn't really much to talk about. I know that half of the Hellraiser films were treated scripts to include Pinhead. I'll remove Doug Bradley from the magic and just focus on what's at hand. The kills suck. The acting is on par or worse than a made for TV film. If Hellraiser met Days of Our Lives, this is probably it. I'm not pissed off that the studios did this considering how they are in the business of making money, but as a fan, this is total garbage. I guess it's one of those things that you have to accept but try to forget in the grand scheme of things. I guess every horror series needs to go through it's own personal Hell before it gets better. ?

0/10. Maybe 1/10 because for the cenobites makeup, but why the fuck were a few of them hanging out next to a pool? Absurd.

The biggest problem? The cenobites seem more like obnoxious BDSM neighbors who need to be shot with shotguns rather than supernatural demons from Hell.

EDIT:

I was being kinda nice, so that was a review of the first 3/4ths of it because I had to turn the shit off. I am gonna finish this properly.

So I think I was also avoiding actually talking about the plot itself, but eh, IDK, you can read it on Wiki or something:

Two dimwits that try to rip off Johnny Depp go to Mexico to mess with the box and have a good time. Guess where that goes. For whatever stupid reason they want to also film it. Shaky cams happen again, bad lines happen. Am I in a Hellraiser film or a fan film?

An absurd scene happens where it would make porn acting look Oscar worthy then I guess

kill some prostitutes to bring back the dude you killed in Mexico

. At this point I have such a headache I am constantly pausing the film because I don't know whether to continue to watch or pour a stiff drink.

At this point I'd rather just watch some Doug to remind me why I am such a big fan of this series. I can already feel like I can never recover from any of this when I talk about this since it's literally the worst I've ever seen in my fav series. All it tells me is that horror will never really be the same.

I'll update again later.

EDIT 2:

Sigh, I'll just get to the worst part...

This is when Pinhead plays the biggest part. If you've been following along, what has happened is that they completely ripped off the original Hellraiser and this idiot who went down to Mexico killed his friend, basically became 'Frank', wanted to escape Hell, asked him to kill hookers (which he does so in front of her newborn), he kills people, then eventually kills his friend, steals his skin, goes back home and holds his entire 'family' at gunpoint and that's when Pinhead shows up. He dies before Cenobites get to complain him, so I guess Cenobites can now just take people for shits and giggles? But they don't, they just mindfuck some people and take away another victim (which makes no sense).

Totally is against the lore. So, finally.

Final girl decides to grab the puzzle box and the move cuts to credits.
The only reason I find that there is so much to unpack here is because it's so incredibly bad it's offensive to everything I know about this film series. I would be legitimately sad by this one if it weren't for the fact the film studios did a pretty good job at softening the blow that the series was getting shittier and shittier. This is one of those films that I prefer to pretend never existed. I take back my 0/10, it's a -1/10 because of how long I needed to take to actually finish it.

Judgement seriously isn't any better. The "Of Chucky" films at least still had Brad Dourif. This has nothing relating to the original Hellraiser at all.

Scream 3 over Scream 2???? ?:D I really didn't enjoy Scream 4 - considering it was written by Williamson and directed by Craven with all the original cast...it felt so tacked on.

Halloween 2018

8/10

I thought it was pretty good, but wish it had more stalk/chase elements. Those were the things that made the old slashers sooo good. This one was a little too modern for my taste, but was still enjoyable. Was great to see Michael on the big screen again!

I also give Halloween 2018 :

8/10

it was a very good movie with strong Halloween filled Moments and homages to all the films in the series which I thoroughly enjoyed!

I also agree with @badassgixxer05 it needed a few more stalk/ chase elements... and easily could have ditched a couple of characters.... Ray, Karen’s irritating husband is one and lame do nothing Sheriff Baker is the other... this could have given us a couple of strong character building scenes for Karen.....who I felt was under used and would have benefited from being a single mom with scenes with Allyson that explained more about the life she had growing up with Laurie as her mom and how she didn’t want that for Her....( sorry went off on a tangent..lol.)

Back to the extra stalk/ chase moments a perfect one would have been...right after Michael kills the sidekick dopey  teenager on the fence in Mr Elrods backyard there should have been a chase scene as the shape stalks after Allyson through the neighborhood and that could have lead up to deputy Hawkins and Dr. Sartain searching the neighborhood and coming across Michael chasing Allyson and then hitting Michael with the car.....instead of picking her up at a neighbors house...and then running into Michael and hitting him with the car.

I also really would have loved if the movie had included a POV scene of Michael escaping His restraints on the bus killing guards and other Patients alike....and then cutting away to the dinner scene.

but I can’t complain too much it was a million times better than the shit fest that Zombies movies were, Resurrection was and I enjoyed it more than H20 and Halloween 5.....

if I were to rank them from my favorites it would go :

Halloween 1978

Halloween II 1981

Halloween 4

Halloween 6

Halloween 2018

Halloween H20

Halloween 5

Halloween 3

zombies films

and then the giant Dump that is Resurrection.

Happy Halloween

I've got a pretty strong stomach so the gore / repulsion side of these films doesn't bother me ... but they do leave me sort of depressed. Never use to bother me in my younger days, but pushing late 30s now I wonder whether I want to use the little free time I have to be depressed by a film.

On Salo, I've read the plot synopsis but never seen it.  It sounds pretty rough, but how bad is it?  The worst I've seen is probably Irreversible, Men Behind The Sun or The Human Centipede. Not sure I'd put myself through Salo or Serbian Film, but I'm still intrigued ...

1

I haven't seen Irreversible, Men Behind The Sun or The Human Centipede so I can't comment on those.  However, I can say that Salo is the reason I will not watch Human Centipede or any other film now that just tries to shock as its main focus.  I can't honestly recommend Salo to anybody.  I was never bothered by gore and violence this side of being 8 years old but with Salo its not about that.  It's the ordeals that those kids were put through and their treatment by the ruling classes purely for their entertainment.  It's difficult to explain but the film itself left me feeling depressed and ultimately switched off any interest I used to have of films that purposely went out to shock ie Human Centipede.  The only other movie I've seen that I can sort of relate to it is Street Trash.  A completely different type of film but it left me with a similar feeling after watching it.  Just not a good viewing experience for me.  I have to watch Carpenters The Thing to restore my faith in horror whenever a film does this to me.

I'm still a huge horror fan ... just not into THAT type of film.

A Quiet Place - 8/10

Really impressive film and its got Emily Blunt in it which is always a good thing.  I do have a soft spot for creature features and I'm always disappointed if the said creature/s don't live up to the hype.  These b***ards are as relentless and unforgiving as they are aggressive and hungry.  There's the odd moment where you can't help but think "why didn't they just do that instead"  or  "why do they have to do that?" when the characters are doing their thing in the film but then I suppose the same could be said for all horrors.  Definitely recommended.  It would get a higher score but the bar is set unbelievably high however 8 out of 10 is an impressive score on my scale.

To each their own buddy !!

I find no redeeming qualities in Halloween Resurrection even having Jamie lee in the prologue felt forced and made my stomach crawl with its terrible writing......

especially compared to Halloween 5 which I find very underrated it may have the worst mask some terrible characters..

( the cops and Spitz I am talking about you!!! Lol.)

but the chase scenes at the farm with the car /the stalking and kills in the barn/  and the Myers house with Michael stabbing the air shaft and Loomis using Jamie to lure Michael into his trap to be quite creepy and scary and very entertaining.....something Resurrection struggles with from beginning to end.

what is it about Resurrection that you like more than Halloween 5 or even Zombies Halloween 2?

Society - pretty good/10. But I'm partial to Brian Yuzna. 😉

Good effects, kinda weird story, definitely worth a watch.

Hereditary - this is one of the best horror movies I've ever seen. Ever.

I'm not giving anything away but the best way I know to recommend it is this... If you liked The Witch the. You will probably like Heredity.

Movie is slow, unnerving, and disturbingly dark. Toni Collette is absolutely amazing.
