Cannibal Holocaust, I Spit on Your Grave and the remake of The Hills Have Eyes.

Brain Dead/Dead Alive is a fun gorefest but not particular disturbing (outside of the pudding scene) for me.

@Ozzman123 Audition would definitely qualify for this list along with A Serbian FIlm, the original Martyrs, A Clockwork Orange, Ichii the Killer, Salo, Requium For a Dream...damn, I could go on for a while with this. I don't normally consciously seek out disturbing films anymore, but there was a brief span of time that I did. I didn't watch most of the Cat III films, and I refuse to watch the Human Centipede flicks. I've seen every film you listed, some of them I really don't find all that disturbing, but of course that is subjective.

Cool topic. I love discussing movies.

The remake of Funny Games really affected me.

Funny-Games-2007-Poster-funny-games-1531

I felt dirty after watching the old Faces of Death on VHS, in college.

During my first viewing of High Tension I was awestruck.

Hostel 2 quite disturbing when the chick has a bath in blood of another woman she kills hanging above her.

Requiem is a movie that I have no reason to ever see again, but it is a well made film. If you are interested at all in the psychosis brought about by addiction, it is worth watching. Martyrs is one that will stick with you for a while, at least it stuck with me. And I honestly do not recommend A Serbian Film. It is disturbing, but it feels like it is trying to be that way just for the sake of it.

Fingernails do it for you, it's eyes being punctured that does it for me. I hate that shit!

and the remake of The Hills Have Eyes.

You know man, that was one remake that I actually found more disturbing than the original. The first film was kind of campy, but still good. The remake was pretty damn brutal. Good call.

Along those lines, have you seen S&MAN? If not, and you're into the movies you just listed, you may enjoy it. I would advise you not to read up on it if you're thinking of watching it. It's better to go in blind.

Edit: @Danny, from a sky level view, Funny Games is heavy-handed commentary on finding entertainment in horror. Rather than the victims just being a statistic on the body count, the movie makes you sit there and experience every bit of the horror alongside of the victims, and it is soul-crushingly effective.

@NthnButAGoodTime That's what made it a real different kind of horror (thriller?). Brilliantly done. What I thought was excellent was that it was a scene by scene remake of the original. You're 100% right on it being soul-crushingly effective!

I've always wanted to watch the original, but knowing that the remake is a direct scene-for-scene recreation, I've never brought myself to the point of being willing to rewatch that story.

I should give Rawhead Rex another chance. I don't remember much about it other than disappointment, but that could've been chalked up to walking into it thinking it was a different type of movie.

I haven't heard from it, but after you put a link to it i had to take a look. At first i was very interested, but then i read that it is  mockumentary, which makes it drop in my interest. Do you think it is good still, even with the knowledge that it is complete bs that they want to sell as facts?

I enjoyed it, but I was able to go in believing it was fully a documentary, even though the biggest part of it actually still is. Think of the rest of it as a side-story.

I find gore for the sake of gore, or films where its just an excuse for 90 mins of excess quite boring ... I'm fine with gory films but there still needs to be a story to tell, otherwise what's the point ... might as well just spend 90 mins trawling Google for car crash footage or something.

A few of the more disturbing ones have already been mentioned, Men Behind The Sun, Guinea Pig, etc.

If you want to watch something that will truly leave you disturbed and has a story check out Threads ... those who've seen it will know what I mean. No film has affected me as much as they one did.

I used to be able to watch those films in this thread, and have seen many of them, but now as I am older and with kids, I have no stomach anymore for them.

Having kids changes your psychosis.
